Virtual events:

• Monthly All Hands 🙌

  • All Hands is a 90-minute company-wide meeting via Zoom hosted once per month. We hear from all teams and our CEO, Joel with high-level updates. It’s not only an event you’ll learn a lot from, it's the one time each month that we come together with as many Bufferoos as possible.
  • As a global company, it's hard to find one time that works for all; since it only happens once a month, attendance is encouraged and expected, even if the time is a bit outside of your normal hours or even if it's not usually a working day for you. This may require some rescheduling, but trust us, you’ll be happy you joined. All Hands are fun and special; it’s a rare opportunity for us as a remote team to spend time “together.”
  • You’ll receive invites to all of these as they are scheduled, which is roughly one month ahead of time. Generally, they fall on the first Tuesday (after the first Monday) of each month. Please plan accordingly so you can attend live!
  • We ask you keep your camera on during this event if possible, and put aside other tasks so you can listen to the speakers and engage in chat. We also take a team photo at the end!
  • If you aren’t speaking, please stay on mute to minimize any disruptions.
  • The time selected for these events optimizes attendance from AMER + EMEA teammates, as that allows the highest amount of Bufferoos to attend. Occasionally, we shift the time to optimize for our APAC teammates to attend live as well, resulting in an AMER + APAC event.
    • These APAC-friendly events are later in the evening for AMER folks; please make room in your schedule for these whenever possible. This is a small way to show flexibility for the APAC folks who stretch their calendars often.

• Monthly APAC All Hands Hangout

  • For the months the APAC team isn’t able to attend live, the executive team (and anyone else who is able) is invited to a 45 minute Q&A chat about the All Hands. While attendance from our APAC teammates is highly encouraged for this event, any Bufferoo is welcome to join.

• Build Week 🛠

  • In August 2022, we hosted our first Build Week! It was similar to a hackathon if you’re familiar to that term. We paused most work (besides Advocacy so our customers weren’t left hanging), formed teams based around those we don’t normally work with that have different skill sets and spent four days building with that team. We built so much, and we had so much fun. We’re hoping to make this a yearly event.

In-person events:

In past years, we held the following types of meetups. Right now, we are approaching these on an as-needed basis, and also depending on the team’s comfort with travel, and our budget.

• Buffer Company Retreats: a 5-day company-wide event, all together in person for those who are able to attend. This consists of several company-wide sessions, some area-team breakout time, and some flexible free time to bond and enjoy the location. This is usually held in a larger city with a major airport, and each teammate has a hotel room to themselves.
• Team Meetups: A 3-to-5-day in-person gathering to collaborate, plan, and bond. This is held in a central-ish location that’s most convenient for the group, depending on the geographic spread of the team. These are often booked in an Airbnb to maximize convenience and collaboration logistics, but for larger teams a hotel might be more practical. These are usually scheduled by the area team based on a budget provided by Leadership and Finance.
