“PTO” = “paid time off”
Taking time off and recharging is critical to doing your best work. We’d love to help everyone on the team feel great about planning and taking restorative time away. Through Buffer’s Flexible Time Off Policy, teammates manage their schedules (with advice from teammates and approval from managers).
In Timetastic, please use the category called “PTO: Vacation and Personal Time.”

New in 2025:
In addition to Vacation days, please also use this category for personal time when it’s not possible to work, even if the time does not fall into the vacation category. Examples of this type of “life admin” may include moving to a new house/apartment, obligations at a child’s school, or a caregiving day for a sick child.
We used to separate this into a standalone category called “Personal Day,” but we’ve combined them for simplicity.

As you plan these days away from work, please use your judgement around holidays and other teammates schedules, and communicate with your team and manager well in advance.
Vacation days do not accrue, meaning that you do not need to “earn” them each year, and we do not have pre-existing limits on the categories set in Timetastic. Please make time for vacation in addition to public and religious holidays that you observe, as well as Family leave. (Family leave is not vacation! 😅)

As you map out your vacation for the year, please plan at least one continuous 2-week vacation to fully disconnect and recharge.

In order to enjoy some well-earned days of rest, here are the steps you should take: please discuss the dates with your manager in advance, then notify your team, and update your availability in Timetastic, Google Calendar, and Slack. Read more about: HOW TO: Steps to take time off from work
Teammates taking time off must plan for their absence, and we all remain accountable for getting our work done well and on time.
