📆 4-Day work weeks: Our schedule is four workdays, with a flexible, meeting-free fifth day for overflow tasks or personal time as you see fit.

What does this mean in practice?
Note: In this section, we refer to “Fridays” because that’s the extra day “off” to for most Bufferoos. However, for some Customer Advocates, Friday may be a regular workday.
- We do not schedule recurring meetings for Fridays, and we rarely schedule other meetings for Fridays.
- Exceptions include: longer one-off conversations that will be more comfortable or productive without competing scheduling needs, urgent situations that require timely work, company-wide special purpose weeks (like Build Week), or in-person time such as retreats and meetups.
- We assume that teammates will not be active in Slack or Campsite on Fridays.
- If needed for an urgent situation, please use @mentions in Slack, and/or alternate means of getting in contact with a teammate (such as a text to a personal cell phone).
- Teammates may choose to work on the 5th day to complete tasks or catch-up on communication. This is within the teammate’s judgement in accordance with our usual remote and flexible approach to work. (See more about: Expectations of all Bufferoos.) This is quite normal to see, and it does not represent a problem unless you are finding that you (or a teammate) is never able to complete their work in 4 days.
- Exceptions include: teammates who are struggling with deadlines or performance, and/or who did not reach “meets expectations” on a performance review may be asked to move to a 5-day workweek for several weeks, months, or quarters in order to meet the needs of the role and level.
- Teams, or managers, may decide to move to a 5-day workweek on a temporary basis to reach a certain deadline or outcome.
If you have any questions about how this impacts you or your team, please kick off a conversation with your manager, a peer, your mastermind buddy, and/or the People Team!
