These aren’t official policies, but they’re just how we do things around here. 😄 Consider this your inside scoop on Buffer’s quirks, traditions, and little joys. 🥳

The Bufferoo nickname
Once you’re part of the team, you’re officially a Bufferoo. No one really remembers where this nickname started, but it’s stuck, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Gifs and emojis are essential
Nonverbal communication can be tricky in a remote setting—there’s no body language or tone of voice to help convey meaning. That’s why we embrace emojis and GIFs as an essential part of how we communicate. Whether it’s a 🎉 to celebrate a win, a 👀 to show curiosity, or the perfect reaction GIF to lighten the mood, these little visuals help us bring personality and warmth to our messages. Don't be afraid to express yourself — we encourage it!
Use Slack threads
There’s a lot of communication happening online when you’re a remote team, so we like to keep things as organized as possible. Lean into using Slack threads to keep your conversations organized!
Add a period in people’s names on Slack if you don’t want to ping them
If you want to make sure you’re not pinging anyone unnecessarily in Slack but need to mention someone’s name in your message, add a random period to their name. Ex: “J.oel” instead of “Joel”
Anyone on the team is happy to help
If you ever have any questions, you can chat with your onboarding buddies, your manager, your team, or just pick any random name in Slack and we’re sure that person will be so happy to help you!
We are powered by coffee (or tea)
We have a lot of caffeine lovers on the team, and if you ever join us at a retreat, you’ll catch a lot of Bufferoos with a cup of coffee or tea in hand most of the time.
