Buffer wants to support the personal and professional growth of all teammates. One way we choose to support this is by encouraging a growth mindset.

What is a growth mindset? “In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.”

How Buffer Supports a Growth Mindset:

• Each teammate can reimburse around $1,000 USD per year as part of the Growth Mindset Fund (in the formats listed below).
• For tax purposes, all reimbursed continuing education expenses must relate to your role somehow.
• Work with your manager to discuss how to use the Growth Mindset fund to deepen your skills and progress within your role.

⭐️ Please connect with your manager before using your Growth Mindset Fund, as we’d love to make sure the course/coaching/conference is the best way to continue to grow and develop in your role at Buffer.

What can be reimbursed from this fund?

• Conferences, online or in-person (elective)
  • Travel for elective conferences is covered if still within the $1,000 guideline.
  • Note: If certain conferences are considered necessary for Buffer’s strategic initiatives, then we will cover that separately from an individual’s Growth Mindset Fund. (Some examples from past years are F8, and WWDC.) Work with your area leadership and the Finance team to determine if a conference is necessary, and if so, budget allocation.

• Certifications
• Career or leadership coaching (Coaching averages $200-$500 per session, but many coaches offer a free initial session to ensure a good pairing! Chat with your manager if you need help searching for a coach, we have a few coaching relationships).
